About the Author

Thanks for stopping by my humble GIS blog. I am a professional geologist working geotechnical engineering in North Texas and I came to GIS the round-about way. After dabbling with ArcINFO in college and Mapinfo as a geologist in precious metals exploration, I started using ArcGIS a few years ago and have been working with GIS almost every day since.

If you have any questions or comments regarding the contents of this blog, please feel free to email me:

My GIS arsenal, in as few words as possible, includes:

  • ArcGIS Desktop 9 – 10
  • Python 2.5 (stand-alone, and w/ArcGIS)
  • GPS/GIS (field use, data formats & conversion)
  • GoogleEarth, KML, Arc2Earth

But I’ve experimented with no fewer than the following: Mapserver, Geodjango, FWTools, Quantum GIS, Mapinfo, PostGIS, MS Visual Studio / C#, ArcGIS Server, IronPython… so if you’re looking for someone with these skills, I’d love to hear from you. – Arne

We are seeking out authors to develop a book of around 350 pages on ‘Programming ArcGIS 10.1 with Python Cookbook’ that will show the readers how to create Python scripts to automate tasks related to data management, feature editing, geoprocessing and analysis, and map production using ArcGIS.

I came across your profile and work with ArcGIS. Your expertise would be of great value to our readers.

Do inform me about your decision or any queries regarding this project.
